Bio
Moné Doucet is a Virginia native with a passion for the Visual Arts. The ability to capture the world through light is an awe-inspiring process. Since the age of five, she has been fascinated with photography and science. The whole idea of creating images has become a life long passion project. Her fascination with photography extends beyond its traditional use and she enjoys discovering ways to manipulate this medium. After majoring in Photography at Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, Virginia; she completed her studies and transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, where she studied and graduated with a BFA in Sculpture and Extended Media.
The challenge of Moné’s ongoing film based work, is to turn her fascination with culture, botany, human anatomy, outer space, science, and pop culture into thought provoking photographs. Each image is created using multiple exposure techniques on medium format film. Ultimately this process yields unpredictable results as components recede and move forward in the picture plane. These one of a kind images have become pioneers of a vanishing era.
Statement
The Light of the Ancestors Exhibition offers the opportunity to reflect on dreams, achievements, struggles, trials, and triumphs of those that have paved the way for us. The images selected for consideration embody the beauty, emotion, imagination, and point to the history of those past icons and present peoples of African ancestry.
